I'm Julie , one of the main characters behind Strawberry Grange and am one of the generation of the farming family who have farmed here since the 1920s. Having lived here all my life I have seen it evolve from dairy farm to soft fruit and horticultural business when we grew strawberries, raspberries and other soft fruit on a commercial basis under the brand "Strawberry Grange". There is still the old apple,plum and pear orchard on site. We still grow barley (for the Scottish whisky industry) on the surrounding farmland. Some time ago we developed a vision for a small scale self build development on the brownfield site of the run down farm steading. Over the last 12 years I have immersed myself in all things local planning and self build. It has been a long road to get to this point, but this is now where the vision can become a reality and that is really exciting. Based on what I learned over the years this blog shares some hints, tips, information and practical insights I've picked up along the way - its been quite some steep learning curve ! From now we will also be sharing the process on the ground as we watch the transformation of Strawberry Grange unfold. I hope the hints and tips will assist you as you embark on your designing and building journey. Having significantly de-risked the site here at Strawberry Grange and putting a team of experts together I hope that your journey will be a smooth, enjoyable and not an unduly stressful one.
